Chandrashekhar Azad, popularly known as Chandrashekhar Azad “Ravan”, is a contemporary Indian social activist and politician. He is the founder and national president of the Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) and is widely known for his strong voice in support of Dalits, marginalized communities, and social justice. Born on 3 December 1986 in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, he comes from a Dalit family and has risen to prominence through activism, education, and political struggle.
Chandrashekhar Azad gained national attention during the 2017 Bhim Army movement, which was formed to fight caste discrimination and promote education among Dalit youth. The Bhim Army started as a social organization but soon became a strong political and social force, especially in western Uttar Pradesh. Azad’s fearless speeches and protest movements against caste violence made him a popular youth leader, especially among Dalits and backward communities.
In 2020, he founded the Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) with the aim of giving political representation to marginalized sections of society. The party is inspired by the ideologies of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, Kanshi Ram, and social reformers who fought against caste-based injustice. Azad believes in constitutional values, equality, education, and social empowerment.
Chandrashekhar Azad entered mainstream electoral politics and contested several elections. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he created history by winning from the Nagina (SC) constituency in Uttar Pradesh, defeating candidates from major national parties. This victory established him as a strong parliamentary voice for Dalits and the underprivileged. As a Member of Parliament (MP), he focuses on issues such as social justice, unemployment, education, reservation, and protection of constitutional rights.
Known for his simple lifestyle and bold speeches, Azad often speaks against caste discrimination, economic inequality, and misuse of power. His followers see him as a symbol of resistance and hope for social change. Despite facing arrests, threats, and political pressure, he continues to raise his voice for the marginalized sections of society.
Chandrashekhar Azad represents a new generation of leaders in Indian politics—grounded in social movements, committed to constitutional values, and determined to create an equal and just society.
