Babu L. N. Hardas was born in the late 19th century in a period when Indian society was deeply divided by caste discrimination. From an early age, he was influenced by ideas of social justice, equality, and self-respect for oppressed communities. He emerged as a strong voice against untouchability and caste-based oppression at a time when such views required immense courage.
One of his most significant contributions was his close association with Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. Hardas played a crucial role in introducing Ambedkar’s thoughts and leadership to the Dalit communities of central India. When Dr. Ambedkar visited Nagpur, Babu Hardas was among those who actively organized meetings, mobilized people, and helped spread Ambedkar’s message of education, organization, and struggle.

He also worked to create awareness about civil rights, political participation, and social dignity. His efforts helped many people understand that social inequality was not destiny but a man-made system that could be challenged.
Apart from social work, Hardas was involved in public life and reform movements. He used writing, speeches, and public meetings as tools to awaken society. His thoughts were rooted in rationalism and human dignity, aligning closely with Ambedkarite ideology. He rejected blind traditions and emphasized reason, equality, and constitutional values.
Babu L. N. Hardas is especially remembered for his role in laying the foundation of Ambedkarite movement in Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region. Though he may not be as widely known as some national leaders, his grassroots work had a deep and lasting impact.
In conclusion, Babu L. N. Hardas was a dedicated reformer who devoted his life to social justice and the upliftment of marginalized communities. His contribution as a pioneer supporter of Dr. Ambedkar and as a fighter against caste discrimination makes him a respected figure in modern Indian social history.
